ANMAPS Receives ISO 9001:2015 Certification, Strengthening Health Regulation in Gabon

On Wednesday, 14 January 2026, the National Agency for Medicines and Other Health Products of Gabon, ANMAPS, officially received its ISO 9001:2015 certification during a formal ceremony held in Libreville. The event was formally reported in an official press release issued on 15 January 2026 by the Ministry of Health.

The certification, awarded by the Association Française de Normalisation, AFNOR, marks the successful completion of a rigorous institutional transformation process aimed at aligning ANMAPS’ quality management system with internationally recognised standards.

This milestone confirms that ANMAPS now operates under a structured and standardised quality framework governing its core regulatory functions, including evaluation, registration, inspection, and post-marketing surveillance of medicines, vaccines, medical devices, and other health products.

For a national regulatory authority, ISO 9001:2015 certification represents more than procedural compliance. It reflects a strategic shift toward structured governance, risk-based decision making, continuous improvement, and consistent service delivery.

The quality system implemented by ANMAPS is based on the PDCA cycle, risk-based thinking, and a constant focus on user satisfaction. It required the mobilisation of all internal teams around process mapping, skills strengthening, documentation structuring, and regular internal and external audits.

From a public health perspective, this certification translates into tangible regulatory improvements, including better control of regulatory timelines, more rigorous management of non-conformities, continuous monitoring of performance indicators, and stronger traceability across the product lifecycle.

Placed under the high patronage of the President of the Republic, His Excellency Brice Clotaire Oligui Nguema, the ceremony carried strong institutional significance. It reaffirmed Gabon’s commitment to regulatory excellence and public health protection.

This achievement positions ANMAPS among a growing number of African regulatory authorities investing in internationally benchmarked quality systems, strengthening Gabon’s credibility within regional harmonisation initiatives and international regulatory networks.
